it could be john kerry. also secretary of defense they say they are trying to name here in the next couple of weeks. the question is regarding susan rice. some have brought up in the past couple of days that maybe benghazi isn't the only blemish on her record. maybe what happened on september 11st, actually reflects something that happened earlier on in her career. going back to 1998 when there were those terror bombings in kenya, and tanzania that killed more than 200 people. a dozen americans. some say susan rice failed to protect our embassies similar to what happened in 1998. >> exact same story repeated. they had the warnings. they had information that al qaeda had cells in these cities and they didn't do anything about it as far as increasing the security on these buildings and, once again, the same situation as what we saw back on september 11th. >> this came on the heels of the coal bombings. the family member was on hannity speaking about this going back to 1998. take a listen. >> what we do now is that as early as 1996, our intelligence community had live active cells al qaeda ce

to the john kerry and barack obama presidential campaigns. some of the media tries to short form the story and comes up with a headline that can be barbed easily. this is suggested by a cable anchor who suggested the media has been arrogant since barack obama won in covering him and in covering in particular this fiscal cliff. tony, your thoughts. >> it could only be an msnbc anchor to take this long to figure out. there have been some media, the financial times which endorsed the president has called the president's bluff on this plan. they say this is the same proposal he put in front of congress that received zero votes a year ago, not even one democratic vote. but what the media has been doing is buying into this story line that president obama has some sort of mandate to do whatever he wants and that is truly false. obviously he has been given more time, but not to ram through an agenda that does not have some participation and cooperation from a house republican conference that was part of the same democratic election process as the path. they have been pushing for this idea that jus

candidate, at one point, from hillary clinton to barack obama, from john kerry to john edwards, all of them, they all played for their plan with this simple phrase, "rolling back the bush tax cuts." they've been doing it for eight years. so politically, that's why the president has to draw that line in the sand. >> he draws that line in the sand, but harold ford, what happens when republicans, at least a small number of them, go ahead and raise taxes on the top 2% and then turn to the white house and say, okay. now we'll move. and then they have to talk about how they're going to slash spending in medicare, to save medicare, how they'll have to slash spending in medicaid to save medicaid. their political problem on the other side of this tax debate is so much bigger than the republican problem. they're being too clever by half here. >> both sides have complicated hands. and if the democrats, we achieve what the president and some democrats in the senate are asking for in a narrow way around taxes, you're absolutely right. just as an aside on the bush era, this is the first time we didn't go
